B.C.’s public health employers
There are eight public health employers that govern, plan and deliver health care services to the people in B.C. Five of our public health employers are regionally based and provide services to a particular geographic area.
We also have a provincial health authority that delivers provincial programs and specialized services, a faith-based health care provider, and the First Nations Health Authority, which is focused on improving the health and health outcomes for First Nations peoples across the province.
The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) is the first and only provincial health organization of its kind in Canada, with a mission to transform the way healthcare is delivered to First Nations and Indigenous people in B.C.. FNHA is governed by and serve B.C. First Nations individuals and communities. FNHA’s talented teams practice cultural safety and humility and foster lateral kindness in their working relationships. FNHA’s holistic approach to wellness, based on First Nations teachings, is incorporated into all aspects of work culture.
As the largest and fastest growing regional health authority in British Columbia, Fraser Health delivers hospital care including operating 12 hospitals and the province’s first state-of-the-art outpatient care and surgery centre, community-based residential, home health, primary care, mental health and public health services to over 1.9 million people living in 20 diverse communities within Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Coast Salish and Nlaka’pamux Nations.
Fraser Health’s communities include a diverse multicultural population including six Métis Chartered Communities and approximately 62,000 Indigenous Peoples associated with 32 First Nation communities.
